Abstract

The article presents a model for incorporating work-based learning into the basic training of social workers in La Réunion. The model adopts a social constructivist approach instrumented by networking technologies through which a context of collective reflection is defined, allowing students to develop professional reflexes together with the support of a group of experienced practitioners. The proposed model is an attempt to combat the current degradation of working conditions, the lack of professional certification, and a decrease in service quality. It does so by reinforcing work-based learning as it breaks through the isolation of the student intern, thus moving from a logic of content to one of process, from a logic of results to one of means, from a quasi-academic scholarly logic to an andragogical logic of professional training. Research and testing were carried out from 2001 to 2005 at Université de la Réunion, at the VCILT of Université de Maurice and at the Institut Régional de Travail Social (IRTS) de la Réunion, following which the model was adopted for basic training at the IRTS de la Réunion.
